Over the past few months, we have been working on finalizing a few new tools that will greatly enhance the productivity and effectiveness of our processes. These include various workbooks and organizational tools that will take things to the next level. The first to be unveiled will be the Systems Planner. This will greatly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the process of creating systems. This is an interesting idea considering the whole purpose for creating systems in the first place is to streamline, improve efficiency and effectiveness, and yet it can be a vary tedious and time consuming process to create them. That is where we are eliminating time spent on non-income producing activities and those that lie outside of one's soul purpose or passion. As a business becomes more systems-oriented, available time and resources are revealed for further expansion and growth. This is often the point that truely bridges the gap from "self-employed to self-expressed." Or as others have stated, moving from self-employed to becoming a true business owner. I recently have noticed a common dichotomy in the world of business consulting and development. Client companies, managers, owners, and others typically are looking for one of two areas of assistance, one being specific strategies, systems development, and other very pragmatic solutions, the other coming as personal development, management, paradigm shifts and enhanced vision. This tends to be the common differences between business "consultants" and business "coaches". This difference is also noted in "leadership" development and "management" development where leadership focuses on powerful principles and personal initiatives, interpersonal relationships, etc. while management brings about specific techniques, strategies, etc. that lead to business growth. This "separation" or dichotomy is one that reveals a powerful solution in the combination of these areas in a synergistic balance. As one is developed, the other is enhanced. It may be difficult to focus on both simultaneously but development balancing the two yields the most enduring and effective results. There can be an order to this development though. I've noted the difference, as have many authors, between working on strategy and technique with someone of powerful leadership ability, passion, ambition, and integrity or working with someone lacking development in these areas. It is far less effective, although this does not mean one should wait until they feel they are the "perfect" leader, only on the path, having the ambition to become such. Balance your training and development and see results.

A common issue I've recently noted among business owners and entrepreneurs with vast experience and comprehensive educations is that of becoming an "Expert." This is, of course, the goal for many but is not free of its own liabilities. Experts exhibit a tendency to disregard certain levels of creativity and innovation as it goes against "the grain" of their expertise. In highly structured and ordered circumstances, this is perfectly fine, but when found in chaotic environments, this is often their biggest liability. The Leaders ability to collect information from a variety of sources including the typical wage-earner and customer/client, and being able to process the best course of action based on all sources is a phenomenal ability and truly defines a leader. The Leader's ability to allow the expert within him/her to be open to "outside the box" thinking by others is a great asset and I dedicate much of what we do to viewing the business as a "whole" and is most powerful when the leader takes that message and runs with it.
